Best Practices for AR/VR Ready 3D Assets

Josh has been exploring the world of 3D content creation for a half a decade. Some of Josh’s experience includes: United States Navy Veteran, Hololens Development and 3D Environment Artist (videogames)

As a 3D artist, He has worked on several indie projects for the Hololens and traditional PC games and has showcased at other local meetups here in Portland. Josh worked on projects such as; Crackdown 3, Firewall Zero Hour (PSVR), and Google AR. He has been a guest speaker at several events around Portland, is an advocate for the AR/VR industry and organizes the free range developers meetup.

Josh will be giving a presentation on his industry experience working on AAA game titles and the differences to Indie development. He will then cover some best practices for AR/VR ready 3D assets. This will be a software agnostic presentation covering what goes into making 3D assets for AR/VR real time rendering.

• What is a polygon?
• Realtime rendering VS. VFX rendering
• What does proper topology mean, and how do you know what’s right
• Hard surface modeling VS. Organic Modeling
• What is PBR (physically based rendering)
• Textures and Normal maps
• Tips, tools and tricks
• Portfolio choices

The topics discussed will be beginner to Intermediate skill level, Q&A after the presentation.
